Streaming from a Phone with Larix Broadcaster
Send your service from an iPhone or Android phone to the platform over RTMPS, an encrypted connection, using the Larix Broadcaster app.
Streaming from a Phone with Larix Broadcaster
Larix Broadcaster is a free app from Softvelum for iPhone (iOS 16 or newer) and Android (Android 7 or newer). It streams to the platform over RTMPS — RTMP inside an encrypted connection, so your stream key never crosses the internet in clear text, which matters on a phone using public or guest Wi-Fi.
A phone is a fine backup camera or a way to stream from a room without equipment. For your main Sunday service, a computer or a dedicated encoder wired to the building's network is steadier.
Have the Connect your encoder card open in The Hub → Streaming — it appears when you start or schedule a stream. It is easiest to open the Hub on the phone itself, so you can copy and paste.
Send over RTMPS
Larix takes the whole address in one line: the Server and the Stream Key from the Hub, joined by a /.
- In Larix, tap the gear icon to open Settings, then Connections, and create a new connection.
- Fill in:
| Larix field | Value |
|---|---|
| Name | Anything, such as Church stream |
| URL | rtmps://ingest.streaming.1stflock.com:443/live/ followed by the Stream Key from the Hub |
- Save, make sure the new connection is the one selected, and tap the record button to go live.
The Stream Key changes with every stream: each week, edit the connection and paste the new one after /live/.
Or send over SRT (encrypted)
SRT is the better choice: it copes better with a shaky internet connection and recovers faster if one of our servers fails. It is encrypted with a passphrase of the stream's own, shown on the Connect your encoder card beside the Stream ID; without it the connection is refused. SRT needs outgoing UDP to port 8890; if your network blocks it, use RTMPS above.
- In Larix, tap the gear icon to open Settings, then Connections, and create a new connection.
- Fill in:
| Larix field | Value |
|---|---|
| Name | Anything, such as Church stream |
| URL | srt://ingest.streaming.1stflock.com:8890 |
| Mode | Caller (sometimes shown as Push) |
| streamid | Paste the Stream ID from the Hub, whole |
| Passphrase | Paste the Passphrase from the Hub |
| pbkeylen | 32 (256-bit encryption) |
| Latency | Leave the default |
- Save, make sure the new connection is the one selected, and tap the record button to go live.
The Stream ID and the passphrase change with every stream. Each week, paste the new Stream ID and Passphrase from the Hub; everything else stays.
Video settings
In Larix's video settings choose 1920×1080 at 30 fps and a keyframe interval of 2 seconds. Recent iPhones can stream 4K; only choose it if your stream in the Hub is 4K and your connection can carry 16,000 Kbps or more.
Keep the phone plugged in, and turn on Do Not Disturb so a call or notification does not interrupt the stream.
If something goes wrong
- It will not connect over SRT. Check the URL has the port (
:8890), Mode is Caller, the Passphrase is this stream's and complete, and the streamid is exactly as shown, starting withpublish:live/. Some mobile and guest Wi-Fi networks block outgoing UDP; use RTMPS on those. - It will not connect. Check the URL starts with
rtmps://— notrtmp://— includes:443, and ends with this stream's whole Stream Key after/live/: the key contains a?and a=. - The picture stutters on mobile data or Wi-Fi. Lower the bitrate in Larix's video settings, or move closer to the Wi-Fi access point.
The settings every encoder needs, and what to expect if a server fails, are in Choosing and Setting Up an Encoder. Support is available 24/7.
