Setting Up Wirecast
Send your service from Wirecast to the platform over RTMPS, an encrypted connection, with the exact settings.
Setting Up Wirecast
Wirecast runs on Windows and macOS. It streams to the platform over RTMPS — RTMP inside an encrypted connection, so your stream key never crosses the internet in clear text. Use the current version of Wirecast; these steps follow the Wirecast 16 user guide.
Have the Connect your encoder card open in The Hub → Streaming — it appears when you start or schedule a stream.
Set the encoder preset first
Select Window → Encoder Presets and choose or create an x264 (or NVIDIA) preset:
| Setting | 1080p | 4K |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution | 1920×1080 | 3840×2160 |
| Frame rate | 30 | 30 |
| Bitrate | 6,000 Kbps | 16,000 Kbps |
| Key frame every | 60 frames | 60 frames |
| Strict Constant Bitrate | On | On |
| Audio | AAC, 48 kHz, stereo, 160 Kbps | same |
Key frame every is counted in frames: 60 at 30 frames per second is one keyframe every 2 seconds.
Send over RTMPS
Open the output settings and:
- Select Destination → RTMP Server and the encoder preset you set up above.
- Address: paste the Server from the Hub,
rtmps://ingest.streaming.1stflock.com:443/live. - Stream: paste the Stream Key from the Hub.
- Click OK, then start the stream.
The Stream Key changes with every stream: each week, paste the new one into Stream.
Or send over SRT (encrypted)
If your Wirecast offers it, SRT is the better choice: it copes better with a shaky internet connection and recovers faster if one of our servers fails. It is encrypted with a passphrase of the stream's own, shown on the Connect your encoder card beside the Stream ID; without it the connection is refused. SRT needs outgoing UDP to port 8890; if your network blocks it, use RTMPS above.
Wirecast 15.2 or newer is needed: it added the Stream ID field. Open the output settings and:
- Select Destination → SRT: Secure Reliable Transport.
- Select the encoder preset you set up above.
- Fill in:
| Wirecast field | Value |
|---|---|
| Address | ingest.streaming.1stflock.com |
| Port | 8890 |
| Passphrase | Paste the Passphrase from the Hub |
| Stream ID | Paste the Stream ID from the Hub, whole |
Put the port only in Port. Wirecast chooses the encryption strength itself; there is nothing else to set.
- Click OK, then start the stream.
The Stream ID and the passphrase change with every stream. Each week, paste the new Stream ID and Passphrase from the Hub; everything else stays.
Reconnecting
Wirecast gives up after three failed reconnect attempts unless you raise the limit. Open Preferences → General (File → Preferences in Windows) and raise Maximum Reconnect Attempts, so a short outage in the middle of a service never ends your broadcast.
If something goes wrong
- It will not connect over SRT. Check Address is the bare host, Port is
8890, the Passphrase is this stream's and complete, the Stream ID is exactly as shown, starting withpublish:live/, and Wirecast is 15.2 or newer. If your building's firewall blocks outgoing UDP, ask whoever looks after the network to allow outgoing UDP to port8890, or use RTMPS. - It will not connect. Check the Address starts with
rtmps://— notrtmp://— includes:443, and ends in/live, and that Stream holds this stream's whole Stream Key: it contains a?and a=. Then update Wirecast to the current version. If it still will not connect, contact support.
