Create and manage small groups, committees, and ministry teams
Groups
Groups organize your congregation into small groups, committees, ministry teams, or any community structure that fits your church. Groups serve as a hub for communication, event planning, and ministry coordination.
Creating a Group
Click "Create Group" to start a new community. You'll define:
- Name: Give the group a clear identity (e.g., "College & Career," "Finance Committee," "Worship Team")
- Type: Choose from Small Group, Committee, Ministry Team, or Custom
- Description: Explain the group's purpose and what members can expect
- Meeting Schedule: Specify when the group meets (e.g., "Monthly on the third Thursday")
- Location: Where meetings typically happen (physical address or "Online")
- Maximum Members: Set a cap if the group has capacity limits
- Group Leader: Assign a staff member or senior volunteer to lead the group
Managing Group Membership
After creating a group, add members by clicking "Add Members." Search for existing members in your database and select them. You can add multiple members at once or add them individually over time.
For each member, designate their role: Regular Member, Leader, or Co-Leader. Leaders can help manage the group and communicate with members.
You can remove members at any time, and members can leave groups if they choose to.
Group Details & Communication
Each group has a profile page showing its description, meeting schedule, location, and member list. Group leaders and staff can send messages to all members of a group via email or SMS (via the Communications section).
Groups integrate with your event system—you can create events specific to a group and invite members to register.
Activating & Deactivating Groups
Active groups appear in the member view and are available for communication and events. When a group's season ends (e.g., a seasonal ministry or completed committee), you can deactivate it rather than delete it. Deactivated groups remain in your history but are hidden from active lists.
Group Statistics
View basic statistics about each group: total members, meeting frequency, and last activity date. This helps you identify engaged groups and those that may need attention.
Next Steps: Use Communications to send messages to your groups, or integrate groups with the calendar to schedule regular meetings and events.
