Tax Settings

Configure your church's tax identification for donor statements and compliance.

Tax Settings

The Tax Settings page allows church administrators to configure your church's tax identification. This information is used to generate donor tax statements and ensure compliance with tax and charitable giving regulations.

Accessing Tax Settings

Tax Settings is available in the Admin Panel (accessed via the settings menu for church administrators only). Look for the Tax Settings link or section.

Setting Your Church's EIN

What is an EIN?

An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is a nine-digit federal tax ID issued by the IRS to identify your church organization. It's used on tax returns, donation receipts, and tax statements issued to donors.

Entering Your EIN

To add or update your church's EIN:

  1. Go to Tax Settings in the Admin Panel
  2. Enter your EIN in the format: XX-XXXXXXX (e.g., 12-3456789)
  3. The system validates the format automatically
  4. Click "Save"

EIN Display & Security

Your complete EIN is stored securely in the database and only visible to church administrators. When displayed on donor tax statements and public-facing documents, the EIN may be masked for security (e.g., showing only the last four digits in some contexts).

Tax Status

Configure your church's tax status for compliance and donor records:

  • Non-Profit Organization: Standard status for most churches and religious organizations
  • Charitable Organization: Tax-exempt charitable organization under IRS rules
  • Religious Organization: Specific religious organization classification

This information appears on tax statements to help donors understand the status of your organization for tax deduction purposes.

Donor Tax Statements

Once your EIN is configured, donors can request annual tax statements showing:

  • Total donations given during the calendar year
  • Breakdown by donation fund
  • Date range of donations
  • Your church's tax ID and legal name
  • Your church's contact information

Statements are generated automatically at year-end and can be downloaded by donors as PDFs for filing with their taxes.

Who Needs This?

Tax Settings should be configured if your church:

  • Accepts donations from members and the public
  • Wants to issue tax statements to donors
  • Requires compliance with IRS regulations for charitable organizations
  • Operates as a registered non-profit or religious organization

EIN Validation

The system validates that:

  • The EIN is in the correct format (XX-XXXXXXX)
  • The EIN has not been entered incorrectly (format checks only—IRS validation is not performed)

Contact the IRS or your tax professional if you're unsure of your EIN or need to verify it.

Support

If you don't have your EIN or need assistance:

  • Contact the IRS at 1-800-829-1040
  • Visit the IRS website at https://www.irs.gov
  • Ask your church's accountant or tax professional
  • Contact 1st Flock support for questions about entering your EIN

Next Steps: Locate your church's EIN and enter it in Tax Settings so donors can receive tax statements for their charitable contributions.
